Some Answers Finally....

So I finally got some answers to why Elizabeth has been so darn sick this last year. We got back her lab results from the bronch wash she had last Friday. Apparently the little stinkers lungs is harboring the strep pneumo bacteria in there. She first had strep pneumo last February with the RSV she had. Ever since then I have been unsuccessful with keeping her healthy. They cultured this little bug in her and it seems to be very resistent to most antibiotics...go figure for the amount of ab she's been on in the last year. So they have decided to put her on levaquin, which they told me is a big gun of antibiotics and that it should get rid of it. They have her on it for 10 days to begin with, but may need to add more days, depending on how she does. So hopefully once we finally get rid of this little bugger int here her lungs will be healthy for once. They didn't see any sign of micro aspiration going on, which is such great news!!

With all that being said, we seen the feeding doctors yesterday and they have said that as long as she isn't micro aspirating they want to put her in the program. However, you gotta love the state of Michigan....they said they would pay for this program and a few kids have been throug it that have Children's Special Health Care Insurance like Elizabeth and low and behold...the state of Michigan has yet to pay for the program for these kiddos. So until they get that figured out...Elizabeth has to wait to get into it. They do want me to keep a 3 day food log of everythign she takes in through mouth and tube and send it in to them so they can re evaluate her nutritional needs. They also want me to push more milk based fluid on her that are high in calories, like whole milk instead of the 2 % she normally drinks and pediasure, which she likes the strawberry pediasure, but now I have to get her to drink more of it then a sip here and there. So I will be working on that for now. We go back to see them in May and hopefully by then the stuff with insurance will be cleared up and we will be able to get her into the program, cause Lord knows we definately need her in it. She is so head strong and refuses to eat. She is also so scared of swallowing most foods...so she really needs this program.
